Claiming the $3,600 Personal Exemption in H&R Block At Home Deluxe

Registered users do not see advertisement
Hello,

I started on my taxes last night and was wondering if anyone can tell me in which section, or how to go about, claiming the $3,600 Personal Exemption for myself and my wife. We are filing Married Filing Joint. Would this be done when the software asks how many "dependents" you are claiming? We claimed "1" for the kiddo, would we select "3" to include ourselves?

Any direction would be greatly appreciated!!

it is done by selecting married filing jointly and then making all the necessary entries for a dependent child. that will add up to 3 exemptions when the software does its magic!

Ok, so then it's done "behind the scenes". I already selected Married Filing Joint, and have added the dependent child information.....so the I guess there is nothing more to do!

I just wasn't sure if you had to input yourself and spouse somewhere to get the personal exemption.

Thank you!!

go to the menu bar on top of page, select "forms" and then select 1040, scroll to the back page to line 42 and you should see 3 X 3650 = 10,950 on that line if everything went correctly.
