Carryover expenses and joint return

Registered users do not see advertisement
Hi,

I am self-employed and work out of my home.

1. I don't have enough income in 2009 to take advantage of my home office and other business expenses. To carry over the expenses to next year do I have to declare them in 2009, or can I just declare them next year?

2. Is it possible for a self-employed to file joint returns with my wife?

Thanks
