Form 1099-R

If I received a 1099-R tax form and it shows an amount in box 1 (gross distribution) and it shows that same amount in box 5 (Employee contributions or insurance premiums) will this reduce the amount of money I could get back on my taxes or will it increase the amount that I can get back?
